Best Free AI Tools in Malaysia (2026)
Turn this article into takeaways for your work.
Each assistant summarizes the article only for you and suggests best practices for your work.
If you use AI in Malaysia for personal work, study, a side project or content, three things decide whether a tool is worth your time: it's free, it's easy to start, and the paid plan is affordable when you outgrow the free one. This guide is built around those three.
The inclusion rule is simple. A tool is here only if it has a genuinely free tier you can keep using, not a trial that expires. Where a paid plan is worth knowing about, we quote the cheapest one, in ringgit where the vendor bills in MYR and in US dollars where it doesn't. Prices and limits are the vendors' own figures and they do change, so treat the plan names as the stable part.
The guide has two halves. First, a table of the 25 most-used AI tools, strictly by traffic. Then our editorial picks: one winner and two alternatives for each job, from chat and research to slides, video and music. Running a team or a business instead? Our best AI tools roundup covers the work side, and there's an Indonesia edition of this guide too.
The 25 most-used AI tools
This table ranks tools by monthly visits worldwide, nothing else. Similarweb publishes country-level visits for only a few of these sites, so the last column shows Malaysia's overall site rank only where Similarweb lists one for a tool.

Source: Similarweb, monthly visits, September 2026
Two notes on reading it. Traffic measures what people visit, not what's best or cheapest, and six of the top ten are chatbots, which is why we also pick winners job by job below. And remove.bg is closing on 1 December 2026, so it gets no recommendation here even though it's still #12 by visits.
Best free AI assistant: ChatGPT
Winner: ChatGPT. It's the most-used AI tool in the world and the highest-ranked AI site in Malaysia, at #7 overall on Similarweb. That popularity matters in practice: every tutorial, template and prompt you find online assumes ChatGPT.
The free plan gives you unlimited text chats on the current model, with abuse guardrails. Uploads, image creation, voice chats, deep research and memory are limited rather than switched off. You can sign in with Google, there are iOS and Android apps, and you can type in Bahasa Malaysia and get answers back in it. It's useful on the first message, with no prompt skills required.
The cheapest paid step is ChatGPT Go at MYR 24 a month, billed monthly in ringgit on the pricing page. Go can include ads. Plus is MYR 99.90 a month if you need heavier use.
| Tool | Free tier | Cheapest paid plan (Malaysia) | Fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| ChatGPT | Unlimited text chats; limits on uploads, images, voice, deep research | Go, MYR 24/month | Best all-rounder, biggest community |
| Gemini | App with a Flash-Lite model, image generation and editing, Deep Research | Google AI Plus, MYR 23.99/month | Best if you live in Google Workspace |
| Microsoft Copilot | Free chat on web, Windows, iOS and Android, with image generation and voice | Microsoft 365 for individuals, from MYR 44/month | Easiest on a Windows PC |
Gemini is the second pick and the second most-used AI site in Malaysia, at #12 overall. Sign-in is your Google account, you can chat in Bahasa Malaysia, and the free app includes Deep Research and Gemini Live. Microsoft Copilot is the pick if you're already in the Microsoft world, with apps on Windows, iOS and Android. It supports sign-in with Microsoft, Apple or Google accounts.
If you can't decide between the big three, our Claude vs ChatGPT vs Gemini comparison goes through the differences, and the full AI chatbots roundup covers more options. Claude itself is the third most-used tool worldwide and sits at #38 in Malaysia.
Two other free chatbots deserve a mention for people who want to try something different. DeepSeek and Qwen Chat are both free to use on the web, and both rank in the worldwide top 15. Meta AI is free inside WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger, which is the easiest route if you never want to open another app.
Best value paid plan: Gemini (Google AI Plus)
Winner: Gemini. When you do decide to pay, the three entry plans are closer than the sticker prices suggest, and all three are billed in ringgit:
| Plan | Price in Malaysia | What it adds |
|---|---|---|
| Google AI Plus (Gemini) | MYR 23.99/month | Higher limits on Gemini; also raises NotebookLM to 200 notebooks and 100 sources per notebook |
| ChatGPT Go | MYR 24/month | More messages, uploads and image creation than free; may include ads |
| Grok Plus | MYR 31.90/month | Higher Grok limits, and it also bundles X Premium benefits |
Google AI Plus and ChatGPT Go are within a few sen of each other, so the decision isn't price. It's which ecosystem you already use. If your life is Gmail, Docs, Drive and Android, Google AI Plus fits. If you want the biggest community and the most polished mobile voice and image tools, ChatGPT Go does. Grok Plus makes sense mainly if you already pay for X Premium, since the subscription carries those benefits.
If you're a student, check our best AI tools for students guide before paying for anything, because several of the free tiers below are enough for coursework.
Best for research: Perplexity
Winner: Perplexity. It answers with sources you can click, which is the whole point of research. The free plan gives you unlimited basic searches with citations, and a small daily allowance of Pro searches and file uploads. You can use it without an account, sign in with Google, and ask in Bahasa Malaysia. It's the eighth most-used AI tool worldwide.
The paid Pro plan is shown as USD 17 a month when billed annually, in dollars rather than ringgit.
| Tool | Free tier | Cheapest paid plan | Fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Perplexity | Unlimited basic searches with citations, small daily Pro allowance | Pro, USD 17/month billed annually | Fast cited answers |
| NotebookLM | Up to 100 notebooks and 50 sources per notebook, chat grounded in your own documents | Google AI Plus, MYR 23.99/month | Studying your own PDFs and notes |
| Liner | 100 credits a month, unlimited Advanced Search, 1 file upload a day, with ads | Pro, USD 17.99/month | Academic-style answers with citations |
NotebookLM answers a different question. Instead of searching the web, it reads only the sources you give it, which makes it the safest choice for revising from lecture slides or summarising a stack of reports. Google now labels the product Gemini Notebook in places, but the NotebookLM address still works. Liner is the pick for cited academic answers; its interface comes in English, Korean, Chinese and Japanese, with no Malay menu.

Best for writing: Grammarly
Winner: Grammarly. The free plan gives unlimited spelling and grammar checks and tone suggestions, plus 100 AI prompts a month. It doesn't give full-sentence rewrites, tone adjustment or plagiarism detection; those are paid. You sign in with Google and it works through browser extensions and mobile keyboards.
One honest limit for Malaysian readers: Grammarly checks English only. If you write in Bahasa Malaysia, it won't help. Pro is USD 12 a month.
| Tool | Free tier | Cheapest paid plan | Fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Grammarly | Unlimited grammar and spelling checks, 100 AI prompts a month | Pro, USD 12/month | Polishing English emails, essays, reports |
| QuillBot | Paraphraser with no sign-up (up to 100 words), basic grammar fixes, basic summaries | Premium, USD 4.17/month billed yearly | Rewording and cheapest paid step |
QuillBot needs no account to start, and its help centre lists Malay and Indonesian among the languages it works in. At USD 4.17 a month billed yearly, it's also the cheapest paid writing plan in this guide. Both are among the most-used writing tools worldwide, at #11 and #14 in the table above.
More options are in our AI writing tools roundup.
Key facts
- The inclusion rule is a free tier you can keep using, not a trial.
- ChatGPT is the highest-ranked AI site in Malaysia, at #7 overall, ahead of Gemini at #12 and Claude at #38.
- The cheapest assistant subscriptions billed in ringgit are Google AI Plus at MYR 23.99 a month and ChatGPT Go at MYR 24 a month.
- Otter does not transcribe Malay. TurboScribe, Fireflies and Tactiq are the transcription options to try instead.
- Suno's free plan has no song downloads and no commercial rights.
- remove.bg closes on 1 December 2026.
- Canva is the one tool that wins two awards: slides and photo editing.
Best for meeting notes and transcription: TurboScribe
Winner: TurboScribe. It's a file-transcription tool rather than a live meeting bot: upload a recording, get a transcript. The free plan allows 3 transcripts a day, each up to 30 minutes, one upload at a time, at lower priority. That's enough for a weekly lecture or a few interviews. It sits at #20 in the table above.
The paid Unlimited plan is USD 10 a month billed yearly.
| Tool | Free tier | Cheapest paid plan | Fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| TurboScribe | 3 transcripts a day, up to 30 minutes each | Unlimited, USD 10/month billed annually | Uploading lectures and interviews |
| Fireflies | Unlimited transcription (rate-limited), limited AI summaries, 400 minutes of storage | Pro, USD 10/month billed annually | Meeting bot for Zoom, Meet and Teams |
| Otter | 300 minutes a month, 30 minutes per conversation | Pro, USD 8.33/month billed annually | English-language meetings |
The deciding fact for Malaysia is language. Otter does not transcribe Malay or Indonesian, so if your recordings are in Bahasa Malaysia, skip it. Fireflies lists Malay and Indonesian in its language support, though its multi-language mode is a higher-tier feature, and Tactiq handles them too. On Fireflies' free plan, downloading transcripts and recordings is a Pro feature.

Best for slides: Canva
Winner: Canva. It's the easiest route from a blank page to a presentation that looks finished. The free plan includes the full drag-and-drop editor, free templates, 5GB of storage and up to 20 uses of Canva's AI tools a month. Sign in with Google and use the app on a phone.
Canva Pro is MYR 250 a year, billed annually in ringgit. Canva isn't ranked in the traffic table because the domain's visits cover far more than its AI features.
| Tool | Free tier | Cheapest paid plan | Fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Canva | Full editor, free templates, up to 20 AI uses a month | Pro, MYR 250/year | Designed decks without design skills |
| Gamma | 400 one-time starting credits that don't refresh, up to 10 slides per prompt | Plus, USD 9 per seat per month | Generating a whole deck from a prompt |
| Slidesgo | 3 AI-generated presentations and 3 template downloads a month, with ads | Premium, MYR 3.5/month billed annually | Cheapest paid template library |
Gamma generates a full deck from a short prompt and is #24 in the traffic table, but its free credits are a one-time grant, so treat the free tier as a way to test it rather than a monthly allowance. A "Made with Gamma" badge stays on free exports. Slidesgo is templates first: free downloads require attribution, which Premium removes, and the Premium plan is the cheapest in this section at MYR 3.5 a month.

Best for photo editing: Canva
Winner: Canva again, this time for its photo and design tools. The same free plan covers background removal and quick edits in a browser or app, with free-labelled content and AI outputs allowed for commercial use under the Canva content licence. Content labelled Pro needs a Pro plan.
| Tool | Free tier | Cheapest paid plan | Fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Canva | Full editor, 1.6M+ templates, up to 20 AI uses a month | Pro, MYR 250/year | Social posts, posters, quick photo fixes |
| Photoroom | Background remover and core editing; exports capped at 25 a week and 100 a month | Pro, MYR 19.99/month | Product photos for online sellers |
| Adobe Firefly | A free plan with limited daily generations | Firefly Standard, MYR 47.96/month | Generated images from Adobe's own models |
Photoroom is the pick for anyone selling products on Shopee or Instagram: clean cut-outs on a phone in a few taps. Past the free export cap, extra exports carry a watermark until the monthly reset, and its paid Pro plan is MYR 12.50 a month if billed yearly. Adobe Firefly is a fit if you want generated images from Adobe's own models, which Adobe states are safe for commercial use; outputs from partner models in the app are your responsibility.
With remove.bg closing on 1 December 2026, Photoroom is the closest replacement for one-click background removal. Google Flow, which absorbed Whisk and ImageFX, is the other free option for generating images, at #19 in the table. See our AI image generators roundup for more.
Best for short video and TikTok: CapCut
Winner: CapCut. If your content is vertical video, this is the default. The free plan gives you a full manual editor on web, desktop and mobile, free templates and exports up to 1080p, with no watermark on projects you build by hand. Google sign-in works, and the editor has a Malay language option.
The catch: a project that uses Pro templates, effects or assets exports with a CapCut watermark or is blocked until you upgrade, and 4K and 60fps are locked on desktop for free users. Pro is MYR 48.90 a month, billed monthly in ringgit. On commercial use, your own footage is yours to monetise, but the library music is licensed for use inside CapCut and TikTok. If you post to YouTube and monetise, bring your own licensed audio.
| Tool | Free tier | Cheapest paid plan | Fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| CapCut | Full manual editor, 1080p exports, free templates | Pro, MYR 48.90/month | TikTok, Reels, Shorts |
| Clipchamp | Unlimited projects and exports at 1080p, no watermark, AI subtitles and voiceovers | Microsoft 365 Personal, MYR 44/month | Free, watermark-free editing on Windows |
| VEED | Browser editor with auto subtitles | Creator, USD 10/month billed yearly | Subtitles in a browser |
Clipchamp is the strongest free option if you want no watermark at all: exports are unlimited and clean on the free plan, though videos using premium stock assets can't be exported. It comes preinstalled on Windows 11. It's not for phones, since its iOS app has been retired. VEED has the strongest auto-subtitle workflow in a browser, but its free exports carry a VEED watermark per third-party reviews, so it suits testing more than posting.
Our AI video editing tools roundup compares the paid end of the market.
Best for voiceover: ElevenLabs
Winner: ElevenLabs. It's the most natural-sounding text-to-speech tool of the three, and it's #17 in the traffic table. The free plan gives 10,000 credits a month across text to speech, speech to text, sound effects and voice design. Sign in with Google, use the mobile apps, and write scripts in Bahasa Malaysia.
Commercial use is the catch. The free tier has no commercial licence. A commercial licence starts on the Starter plan at USD 6 a month. If the voiceover is for a monetised YouTube channel or a client, you need Starter or above.
| Tool | Free tier | Cheapest paid plan | Fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| ElevenLabs | 10,000 credits a month; no commercial licence | Starter, USD 6/month (commercial licence from here) | Most natural voices |
| TTSMaker | 20,000 characters a week, max 500 per conversion, 600+ voices in 100+ languages; commercial use listed on the free plan | Lite, USD 9.99/month | Free voiceovers with commercial use |
| NaturalReader | Unlimited basic system voices for personal listening; no MP3 export on free | Lite, USD 79/year | Listening to documents, not publishing |
TTSMaker is the one to try if you need a free voiceover you can use commercially: the free plan's feature list includes commercial use, with captchas and ads as the price. It also has a Malay-language version of its site. NaturalReader is built for listening: free and all personal plans are licensed for personal use only, so don't publish its audio.
See our AI voice generators roundup for more.
Best for music in content: Suno
Winner: Suno. It turns a text prompt into a finished song with vocals, and it's #9 in the traffic table with 75.5M monthly visits. The free plan gives 50 credits a day, about 10 songs, and you can listen and share them in your library. Sign in with Google and use the mobile apps.
The limits matter for creators. Suno's free plan has no song downloads since September 2026 and no commercial rights. Commercial use rights start on the paid plans: Pro is USD 8 a month billed yearly, with 20 song downloads a month, and Premier has 60. Suno bills Malaysian users in dollars, not ringgit.
| Tool | Free tier | Cheapest paid plan | Commercial use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Suno | 50 credits a day, about 10 songs; no downloads | Pro, USD 8/month billed yearly | Paid plans only |
| Udio | 10 credits a day, 100 a month | Standard, USD 10/month | Downloads are off on all plans |
| Mubert | 25 tracks and 5 downloads a month, MP3 | Creator, USD 11.69/month billed yearly (non-commercial) | Pro plan for monetised content |
Udio is fun to experiment with, but downloads are off on all plans, so you can't take tracks out of it. Mubert generates background music, but its free and cheapest plans are non-commercial; monetised content needs its Pro plan, and even then tracks can't be registered in Content ID or sold.
The short version for a Malaysian creator: use AI music for personal projects and drafts on the free plan, and pay for Suno Pro before putting any track on a monetised channel. Our AI music generators roundup goes deeper on rights.
Best for translation: Google Translate
Winner: Google Translate. It's the most-used translation tool at #4 in the table, with 525.6M visits, and it's free. Text, document, website, camera and conversation translation are all included, covering Malay and Indonesian, and the mobile app supports offline language packs. No account is needed. There's no paid plan for consumers, which makes it the easiest award to give.
| Tool | Free tier | Cheapest paid plan | Fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Google Translate | Text, documents, websites, camera, conversation; offline packs | None | Everyday Malay, English and Chinese |
| Microsoft Translator | Free text translation on Bing, plus an app for voice, camera and conversations | None | Group conversations on a phone |
| DeepL | 50,000 characters a month of text translation, limited file translation | Individual plan (see DeepL's pricing page) | Polished European-language text |
DeepL ranks #7 worldwide and produces notably natural text, and it supports Malay and Indonesian in its language list. Its Individual plan is billed in US dollars for Malaysian users; check the price on DeepL's own page. Microsoft Translator is a solid alternative with a strong conversation mode.

Best AI agent and browser assistant: Manus
Winner: Manus. An agent doesn't just answer; it goes off and does a multi-step task, like researching a topic and producing a report. Manus is #25 in the traffic table. The free plan gives chat mode and a lighter agent mode, with 300 daily refresh credits you claim by logging in. The interface is available in Bahasa Indonesia, and it takes input in Malay.
The Pro plan starts at USD 20 a month, in dollars.
| Tool | Free tier | Cheapest paid plan | Fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Manus | Chat mode and a lighter agent mode, 300 daily refresh credits | Pro, from USD 20/month | Multi-step tasks done for you |
| Monica | 40 basic-model uses a day | Pro, USD 99/year | Browser sidebar with several models |
| Genspark | 100 credits a day, up to a lifetime allowance | Plus, USD 24.99/month billed monthly | Research and slide generation |
Monica lives in your browser as a sidebar and lets you switch between models; its accounts are personal-use only. Genspark is the one to try for research reports, and its Plus plan includes commercial use of generated content, which the free plan does not list. Its prices are in US dollars.
Agents burn through credits quickly, so set expectations: the free tiers are for trying the idea, not running your week on. Our AI agents roundup covers the field in more depth.
