Best Free AI Tools in Indonesia (2026)
Turn this article into takeaways for your work.
Each assistant summarizes the article only for you and suggests best practices for your work.
If you live in Indonesia and use AI for personal work, study, a side project or content, three things decide which tool is worth your time: it has to be free (properly free, not a seven-day trial), it has to be easy to start, and the paid upgrade has to be affordable when you eventually need it. This guide is built around those three questions.
The inclusion rule is simple. Every tool here has a genuinely free tier you can use without paying, not a trial that expires. Where a tool has a paid plan priced in rupiah, we show it. Where the vendor only bills in US dollars, we show the dollar price and say so.
The article has two parts. First, a table of the 25 most-used AI tools, ranked strictly by traffic. Then 13 "best for" picks, each with a winner and two alternatives. The table tells you what everyone else uses. The picks tell you what we'd start with. If you want the global view of the same categories, see our best AI tools overview. Readers in Malaysia can use the sibling guide to free AI tools in Malaysia.
The 25 most-used AI tools
This table follows traffic and nothing else. The visits column is worldwide, because Similarweb only lists country-level numbers for a few sites. The Indonesia column is filled in only where Similarweb publishes a figure.
| # | Tool | Category | Monthly visits worldwide | Indonesia |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | ChatGPT | AI assistant | 5.92B | #4 site overall |
| 2 | Gemini | AI assistant | 2.64B | #8 site overall |
| 3 | Claude | AI assistant | 1.01B | #24 site overall |
| 4 | Google Translate | Translation | 525.6M | |
| 5 | DeepSeek | AI assistant | 313.1M | |
| 6 | Grok | AI assistant | 205.5M | |
| 7 | DeepL | Translation | 96.8M | |
| 8 | Perplexity | Search and research | 91.7M | |
| 9 | Suno | Music | 75.5M | |
| 10 | Microsoft Copilot | AI assistant | 64.4M | |
| 11 | Grammarly | Writing | 59.8M | |
| 12 | remove.bg | Image and photo | 54.2M | 5.0M visits |
| 13 | CapCut | Video | 48.3M | 3.0M visits |
| 14 | QuillBot | Writing | 35.8M | |
| 15 | Qwen Chat | AI assistant | 34.8M | |
| 16 | Meta AI | AI assistant | 34.4M | |
| 17 | ElevenLabs | Voice | 33.6M | |
| 18 | Reverso | Translation | 30.4M | |
| 19 | Google Flow (formerly Whisk and ImageFX) | Image and photo | 28.3M | |
| 20 | TurboScribe | Notes and meetings | 27.1M | |
| 21 | Kimi | AI assistant | 25.6M | |
| 22 | Duck.ai | AI assistant | 23.9M | |
| 23 | Adobe Firefly | Image and photo | 23.0M | |
| 24 | Gamma | Slides and documents | 21.1M | 1.1M visits |
| 25 | Manus | Browser agents | 19.5M |
Source: Similarweb, monthly visits, September 2026
Two things stand out. Chatbots fill ten of the 25 places, and ChatGPT alone gets more than twice the visits of Gemini, which is itself more than twice Claude. And the gap between rank 1 and rank 25 is huge: ChatGPT's 5.92B visits is roughly 300 times Manus's 19.5M. A tool at the bottom of this table is still used by millions of people.
One note on remove.bg: it is closing on 1 December 2026, so we don't recommend building a habit around it. Canva and Photoroom, both covered below, remove backgrounds too.
Best free AI assistant: ChatGPT
Winner: ChatGPT. It's the most-used AI tool in the world and ranks #4 among all sites in Indonesia, per Similarweb. The free tier gives you unlimited text chats with the current model, with limits only on extras like file uploads, image creation, voice chats and deep research. You can sign up with a Google account, and there are iPhone and Android apps. You can type in Bahasa Indonesia and get answers back in it.
On the paid side, ChatGPT has a Go plan that is available in Indonesia, and the plans are listed on the pricing page. It's the budget step up if the free limits start to bite.
Why it wins: nothing else matches it for a first-time user. You open it, you type, you get a useful answer. You don't need to know how to write prompts. If you want to see how it stacks up against its two biggest rivals, read our Claude vs ChatGPT vs Gemini comparison.
Two alternatives worth keeping open in another tab:
| Tool | What the free tier gives | Indonesian |
|---|---|---|
| Gemini | Flash-Lite model, image generation and editing, Deep Research, Gemini Live, Canvas, Gems, 15 GB storage (usage-limited) | Yes, including the interface |
| Microsoft Copilot | Free chat on web, Windows, iOS and Android, with image generation, voice and web answers | Yes, including the interface |
Gemini is the stronger choice if you already live in Google's world (Gmail, Docs, Android). Copilot suits people on Windows who want an assistant built into the operating system. For a wider look at the field, see our guide to the best AI chatbots.
Best value paid plan: Gemini (Google AI Plus)
Winner: Gemini. If you decide to pay for an AI assistant, Google AI Plus is the cheapest of the big three in rupiah: IDR 75.000 per month, billed monthly, on Google's Indonesian subscription page. You pay through Google's own billing in local currency, so you can pay in rupiah. The same plan raises the limits on NotebookLM, which we cover under research below.
| Tool | Cheapest paid plan in Indonesia | Billing |
|---|---|---|
| Gemini | Google AI Plus, IDR 75.000 | Per month |
| ChatGPT | Go plan available in Indonesia (pricing page) | Per month |
| Grok | Plus, IDR 139.000 | Per month |
ChatGPT's Go plan is the main rival on price, and for many people it's the better pick if ChatGPT is already their daily tool. Grok Plus costs nearly twice as much as Google AI Plus and bundles X Premium benefits, which only makes sense if you're active on X.
Our advice: don't pay for anything until the free tier of your main assistant actually stops you from finishing work. Most students and casual users never hit that point.
Best for research: Perplexity
Winner: Perplexity. It answers questions with citations, so you can click through to the sources instead of trusting a paragraph on faith. The free tier gives unlimited basic searches with citations, plus a small daily allowance of Pro searches and limited file uploads. You can start without an account, sign in with Google if you want history, and type your questions in Bahasa Indonesia. Pro is USD 17 per month when billed annually, and it's billed in dollars, not rupiah.
Perplexity is #8 on the traffic table above, and it's the tool to open when you'd normally use a search engine but want a direct answer. For a comparison with other AI search tools, see our guide to AI search engines.
| Tool | What the free tier gives | Cheapest paid plan |
|---|---|---|
| NotebookLM | Up to 100 notebooks and 50 sources each, chat grounded in your own documents, Audio Overviews | Google AI Plus, IDR 75.000 per month, raising limits to 200 notebooks and 100 sources |
| Liner | 100 credits a month, unlimited Advanced Search, 1 file upload a day, answers with ads | Pro, USD 17.99 per month |
NotebookLM does something different from Perplexity: you upload your own PDFs, notes and web pages, and it answers only from those. That makes it a good fit for studying from lecture material. Liner is the pick if you want something that works like a browser sidebar.
Best for academic research: Consensus
This is the one award that is specific to Indonesia. If you're writing a skripsi, a thesis or a journal article, general chatbots will happily invent references. Academic search tools only point to real papers, and Indonesian students use them heavily: Indonesia is Elicit's largest market at 13.2% of its visits, and the second-largest for both Consensus and SciSpace, per Similarweb's September 2026 data.
Winner: Consensus. It searches published research and gives you paper-backed answers. The free tier covers basic paper search, 10 Pro (AI analysis) messages per month and up to 3 Deep reviews per month. Sign-in works with Google. The Pro plan is USD 12 per month billed annually, which is the cheapest paid step among the three tools below.
| Tool | Free tier | Cheapest paid plan | Indonesia visits (Sep 2026) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Consensus | Basic paper search, 10 Pro messages and 3 Deep reviews a month | Pro, USD 12 per month, billed annually | 628K |
| SciSpace | Limited AI chats with papers, limited uploads and tool use | Premium, USD 20 per month | 447K |
| Elicit | Unlimited search across 138M+ papers, unlimited summaries and chat with full-text papers; limited reports | Pro, USD 49 per month, billed annually | 224K |
Elicit has the most generous free tier for pure literature search, but its paid plan is the priciest, so it's best if you can live inside the free limits. SciSpace is strongest when you want to ask questions of a PDF you've already found. Whatever you use, open the paper itself before you cite it. For the full methods, see our guides to the best AI tools for academic research and for literature review, plus our list of AI tools for students.
Best for writing: Grammarly
Winner: Grammarly. It is the most-used writing tool on earth, at 59.8M monthly visits. The free plan gives you unlimited spelling and grammar checks, tone visibility and 100 AI prompts a month. It works as a browser extension, a keyboard on your phone and an add-in for Docs and Word, and you can sign in with Google. The Pro plan is listed at USD 12 per month.
One honest limit: Grammarly checks English. It doesn't check Indonesian text, so it's the right tool for English emails, cover letters, scholarship essays and English abstracts, not for writing in Bahasa Indonesia.
If you write in Indonesian and need to rephrase it, look at the alternative:
| Tool | What the free tier gives | Cheapest paid plan | Indonesian input |
|---|---|---|---|
| QuillBot | Paraphraser with no sign-up, basic grammar fixes, basic summaries, limited humanizer and AI detector | Premium, USD 4.17 per month, billed annually | Yes |
QuillBot's free paraphraser caps the amount of text per run (the pricing page says 100 words), so it suits sentences and short paragraphs. Premium is cheap in dollar terms and bills by card or PayPal. For other options, see our best AI writing tools.
Best for meeting notes and transcription: TurboScribe
Winner: TurboScribe. It turns audio and video files into text, and it's #20 on the traffic table. The free plan gives you 3 transcripts per day, each file up to 30 minutes. That's plenty for lecture recordings, interviews and voice notes. The Unlimited plan is USD 10 per month billed annually.
If you mostly work with live meetings on Zoom, Google Meet or Teams, the alternatives fit better:
| Tool | What the free tier gives | Cheapest paid plan | Indonesian |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tactiq | 10 meeting transcripts and 5 AI credits a month, in-meeting AI, Chrome extension for Meet, Zoom and Teams | Pro, USD 8 per month, billed annually | Indonesian transcription supported |
| Fireflies | Unlimited transcription (rate limits apply), limited AI summaries, 400 minutes of storage, 100+ languages | Pro, USD 10 per month, billed annually | Yes |
A caution for Indonesian speakers: Otter, one of the best-known names in this category, does not transcribe Indonesian, so we left it out. Tactiq and Fireflies both handle it. See our guide to AI meeting assistants for the wider field.

- Otter does not transcribe Indonesian. Tactiq and Fireflies do.
Best for slides: Canva
Winner: Canva. Canva is heavily used in Indonesia, with 65.3M monthly visits from the country. The free plan is a full drag-and-drop editor with free templates, 5GB of storage and up to 20 uses of Standard or Premium AI tools per month. The interface is in Bahasa Indonesia, you can sign in with Google, and there are mobile apps. Free-labelled content can be used commercially.
Canva Pro costs IDR 95.000 per month in Indonesia, and you can pay by card, PayPal or GoPay. Pro unlocks premium templates, elements and more AI use. If you only make the occasional slide deck, you'll probably never need it.
| Tool | What the free tier gives | Cheapest paid plan |
|---|---|---|
| Gamma | 400 one-time starting credits that do not refresh monthly, up to 10 slides per prompt; a "Made with Gamma" badge stays on shared content | Plus, USD 9 per month (USD) |
| Slidesgo | 3 AI-generated presentations and 3 template downloads a month, with ads; attribution required | Premium (removes attribution) |
Gamma builds a whole deck from a prompt, and it's used a lot in Indonesia, with 1.1M monthly visits from the country. Its free credits run out and don't come back, though, so treat the free plan as a way to try it. Slidesgo is the choice if you want ready-made templates for school or campus presentations. For more options, see our guide to the best AI presentation tools.
Best for photo editing: Canva
Winner: Canva (Magic Studio). The same free Canva account covers photo editing: the editor and its AI image tools sit in the same app, and the free AI allowance applies. Free exports of free-labelled content carry no watermark. Canva Pro is IDR 95.000 per month, the same plan as above, so one subscription covers slides and photos.
| Tool | What the free tier gives | Cheapest paid plan |
|---|---|---|
| Photoroom | Background remover and core editing; exports capped at 25 per week and 100 per month | Pro, IDR 69.000 per month when billed monthly (IDR 38.250 per month billed yearly) |
| Leonardo AI | 150 fast tokens per day, public creations only, presets | Essential plan, billed in USD |
Photoroom is built for product photos: it removes backgrounds and has iOS and Android apps. Once you pass the free export cap, extra exports carry a watermark until the monthly reset. Leonardo is for generating images from prompts. Free creations are public, and Leonardo grants a commercial licence on free-tier images, while paid subscribers keep full ownership. For text-to-image options, see our guide to the best AI image generators.
Best for short video and TikTok: CapCut
Winner: CapCut. It's a popular editor in Indonesia, with 3.0M monthly visits from Indonesia on the web alone, not counting the mobile app. The free plan is a full manual editor on web, desktop and phone, with free templates, exports up to 1080p and a Bahasa Indonesia interface. You can sign in with Google.
The catch is premium assets: if your project uses a Pro template or effect, it exports with a CapCut watermark or is blocked until you upgrade. CapCut Pro is IDR 188.000 per month in Indonesia. Editing your own footage with free tools gives you a clean export.
| Tool | What the free tier gives | Cheapest paid plan |
|---|---|---|
| Clipchamp | Full browser and Windows editor, unlimited exports at 1080p with no watermark, AI subtitles and voiceovers, free royalty-free stock | Bundled with Microsoft 365 Personal, IDR 135.999 per month |
| Kapwing | Browser editor with auto-subtitles up to 10 minutes, 720p, Kapwing watermark on all exports | Pro, USD 16 per month, billed annually |
Clipchamp is the pick if you're on a Windows laptop and want no watermark. Kapwing's free exports are watermarked, so use it for quick subtitle jobs, not finished posts. A word on music: CapCut's library tracks are licensed for use inside CapCut and TikTok, but they can trigger copyright claims on YouTube, so bring licensed audio if you monetize there. We left Vidnoz out because it doesn't offer free credits in Indonesia. For more tools, see our guide to AI video editing tools.
Best for voiceover: ElevenLabs
Winner: ElevenLabs. It's the best-known voice tool here, and it's #17 on the traffic table. The free tier gives you 10k credits per month across text to speech, speech to text, sound effects and voice design. You can sign in with Google, use the phone apps and write your script in Bahasa Indonesia.
The thing to know: the free tier has no commercial licence. If the voiceover goes into a monetized video, an ad or a client project, you need a paid plan. The Starter plan, which includes the commercial licence, is USD 6 per month billed monthly, and you pay by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay in dollars.
| Tool | What the free tier gives | Cheapest paid plan | Commercial use |
|---|---|---|---|
| TTSMaker | 20,000 characters a week, 500 characters per conversion, 600+ voices in 100+ languages, ads and captcha | Lite, USD 9.99 per month, billed annually | Listed on the free plan |
| NaturalReader | Unlimited basic system voices plus daily allowances of AI voices; no MP3 export | Lite, USD 79 per year | Personal use only |
TTSMaker is the better choice if you need free voiceovers you can use commercially, and it has an Indonesian interface. NaturalReader is for listening to documents and web pages, not for producing content. See our guide to AI voice generators for the global picture.
Best for music in content: Suno
Winner: Suno. It's the most-used AI music tool, with 75.5M monthly visits worldwide, and it's easy: describe a song in Bahasa Indonesia or English and get a finished track. The free plan gives you 50 credits per day, about 10 songs, with standard features and a shared queue. You can sign in with Google and there are iOS and Android apps.
The important limit is rights. The free plan has no commercial rights. For background music in a monetized video or a client project, you need Pro, which Suno sells in rupiah: IDR 130.000 per month when billed yearly, with commercial use rights and monthly song downloads. Check Suno's terms for the exact limits on commercial use.
| Tool | What the free tier gives | Cheapest paid plan | Commercial use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Udio | 10 credits per day, 100 per month, remix and extend | Standard, USD 10 per month | No: downloads are disabled on all plans |
| Mubert | 25 generated tracks and 5 downloads a month, non-commercial | Creator, USD 11.69 per month, billed annually, is still non-commercial | Monetized content needs Pro, USD 39 per month |
Udio is fun for experimenting, but we wouldn't plan content around tracks you can't export. Mubert generates endless background loops, which suits streams and ambient videos, but even paid plans don't let you put tracks on Spotify or register them in Content ID. Our AI music generator guide goes deeper on licensing.
Best for translation: Google Translate
Winner: Google Translate. It's the fourth-most-used AI tool in the world, with 525.6M monthly visits, and it's completely free. Text, documents, websites, camera and conversation translation all work, Indonesian is supported, and the mobile apps include offline language packs, which helps when you're travelling or short on data. No account is needed.
| Tool | What the free tier gives | Cheapest paid plan |
|---|---|---|
| Microsoft Translator (Bing) | Free text translation, plus an app with voice, camera and multi-person conversation | None for consumers |
| DeepL | 50,000 characters a month of text translation, limited file translation, no account needed for the web translator | Individual plan with a 30-day free trial |
DeepL (#7 on the traffic table) supports Indonesian, so it's worth comparing on a paragraph or two of your own text. For everyday needs, Google Translate is hard to beat on price and convenience. See our AI translation tool guide for a wider comparison.
Best AI agent and browser assistant: Manus
Winner: Manus. An agent doesn't just answer; it does a multi-step job, like researching a topic and handing you a finished report or website. Manus is the most-used of these tools at 19.5M monthly visits. The free plan gives you Chat Mode and Manus 2.0 Lite in Agent Mode with 300 daily refresh credits, one task at a time. The interface works in Bahasa Indonesia, and there are phone apps. Pro starts at USD 20 per month, billed in dollars.
Manus is a good fit if you want to try delegating a whole task. For day-to-day browsing help, a sidebar assistant is lighter:
| Tool | What the free tier gives | Cheapest paid plan | Indonesian input |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sider | 30 Basic credits a day, with lifetime caps on some features | Nano plan, billed in USD | Yes |
| Monica | 40 basic-model uses a day, basic writing, translation and summaries | Pro, USD 99 per year | Yes |
Sider and Monica sit in your browser sidebar and summarize pages, translate and rewrite as you read. Monica has an Indonesian-language interface. Our guide to AI agents covers what these tools can and can't do reliably.
